It is important that any industrial designer has a firm grasp on home goods and furniture design. During the beginning of my sophomore we were assigned a semester long project of designing a lamp. I started doing market research as well as creating user profiles. I wanted to make more of a sculptural lamp that would also have great functionality. My biggest inspiration for this project was Gerrit Rietveld’s Hanging Lamps. The tubular fluorescent design can be articulated to a variety of positions and angles. The base of the lamp is touch capacitive ensuring that the profiles is not hindered by any extrusions. Sometimes in design we take inspiration from the past and push the idea even further.
